Hi, I’m Cody, the maker behind the monsters! I’m a mountain living, monster making mama from the Smokey Mountains!

I have been making Mon-stors and monster toys since October, 2009. What started out as simply dreaming up the design of a monster that “ate” toys as a storage solution for my son when we were in a cramped living situation has grown into an bustling business with hundreds of different kinds of monsters being made each year!

My Mon-stors and other monster goodies have been featured in publications like Parents Magazine, Buzzfeed and Hello Wonderful. While making Mon-stors keeps me mega busy – I typically sell out within 30 minutes of stocking my shop with them! – I also have the honor of marketing for my favorite e-commerce platform, Storenvy.com! This blog is where I share my experience, advice and monstrous journey as an indie biz owner, social media strategist & mama, plus eco lifestyle & tiny home living/storage/design type posts from time to time! Keep reading to learn a little more about my monster biz, or click the links below to visit me on social media as well!

Feel monstrously awesome about purchases from Lu & Ed

My monsters are totally eco-friendly, handmade in Asheville, NC with textile discards. Each Mon-stor is made from up-cycled fabrics either purchased from thrift stores or salvaged from donated clothing and fabrics. Materials I use varies from sheets, blankets, curtains, table cloths, pajamas, robes, baby outfits, fabric remnants and more! I have a zero waste production process that is pretty neat! I use the scraps from large Mon-stors are used to make smaller Mon-stors, and scraps from those are used to make stuffed monsters, Tooth Pillow Mon-stors and Mon-stor Library Totes. And the itty bitty scraps left over from those is diced up and blended with poly-fil – meaning there is absolutely no landfill waste from the production ofmy monsters! Pretty cool, huh?

Thinking outside the box

The eco-loving monster making process doesn’t end there, though! Instead of purchasing packaging supplies that are created in a high energy factory that produces air pollution and tons of waste, I collect and recycle food boxes by flipping them inside out and using them for shipping. This reduces landfill waste, energy consumption & pollution. Orders from Lu & Ed are also sealed with bio-degradable tape, and hand addressed to reduce paper waste and energy used to produce address labels. Saving the world, one monster at a time!

I hope you enjoy this monstrously fun little place in the blogisphere!
